I had an esoteric experience with a female mountain lion, who lives right next to my home in rural Arizona. Previous to my intimate encounter with her, she was the only thing i feared. Keep an open mind- because what she shared with me, was real, and true... She showed me, how often her kind (Big cats) watch humans on the surface of this planet- which is, many thousands of times each day- specifically, in India- and she asked me, "How often do we (big cats) attack you? Or hurt, or kill you?" I had to admit to her- "Basically- never!" She smiled, it seemed, as if, she has an intact sense of humor- in our brief, but passionate connection I shared with her. It should also be said, that Mountain Lions do in fact roar- but I have only heard it when they are enraged and wounded, I have heard it with my own ears- in fact, the very lioness who opened her heart to me on this ranch, was the one I shot (she lived), a few years earlier. I apologized to her from my heart, and she told me, she had already forgiven me for it. She, her people, are passionate, wise, and only care to make her home in reality, in what is true, not the worlds human create for ourselves- the home of the Lion is an eternal place, is much older than anything humans can dream up- and will continue to exist long after we are gone. If cougars, and lions wanted to prey on us, there is little we could do about it- yet each day they choose benevolence. She showed this to me, how often her people watch us- and how comically easily she could turn us into food, and yet- outside of extreme circumstances- they will not hurt us. She showed me, she finds her own food, and it is not a bother to her, she neither desires nor has a hunger for us "humans". It was a life changing experience, to have a cougar, open her heart to me, a human being. I think, in time, as humanity evolves, we will discover that we do indeed have feline DNA within us. As with dogs, we may not even exist, had it not of been for benevolent felines, choosing to make space with us. Sadly, this ancient history has been erased from our DNA, however- while it may not be in our memories- it is forever in the memories of the feline. Yes- cougars should be protected. I was once, one who feared them, but that fear vanished that cool evening, when I met the mother lioness, who lives near my house, and has had several kittens, one of whom, was spotted on my birthday, in our hay barn. And, once, while staying in the yurt near her home, I surprised her daughter, who was walking in the stream by the ranch. She told me, with laughter- that a human scaring a cougar- is a truly rare thing, and my name is on a short list. Ha! And, having worked with wolves, the dynamic is so dissimilar, as wolves are very family oriented, and cougars- are essentially the opposite- and, yet, I found such warmth in the heart of the lioness, who lives near me. It is something I will never forget, and is written in my DNA, a new link of feline and human union. We may have forgotten our past, but nature has not.

Everywhere the mountain lion exists it needs to be there. We need to do all we can to protect these magnificent & essential apex predators from habitat loss, vehicle strikes to poaching & everything in between!!! The environment needs the mountain lion as it's a predator critical to regulating deer populations & those of smaller prey.

They are very reclusive if you saw one and escaped unscathed you are fortunate. They see you way before you see them. I had a Lion on my roof, but didn’t realize it in Black Canyon City, AZ. Suddenly I heard a scream just above my head. I jumped back in the house. My neighbor working for us in our garage pointed out the huge paw prints behind my garage, not more than 10-15 feet from the back door to my house. Two weeks later in our local newspaper pictures of a 150 pound cat was killed. They are gorgeous animals but I wouldn’t want to see one up close. They grab you by your throat and disembowel you with their back legs. Not an encounter you want to have! You have to know your surroundings and like the man said know what to do. They were here first so respect wild life, or move to a city!

Humans are choking out these creatures not a lot different from the way dandelions will choke out a beautiful lawn if the aggressive weeds are not managed. Unfortunately we're fertilizing the dandelions (development) and forgetting about the flowers and lawn.

I saw one at griffith park in Los Angeles CA. How did it get there i have no Clue. Because If it came from the santa monica mountains than it would have to pass 2 major freeways without getting killed to get there and call it home. It was a beautiful. It kind of took me by surprise but I had to remember. I can't get scared when I'm seeing these animals.

We need mountain lions they are part of the ecosystem, but there’s no balance for mountain loins, because California stop season on them 33 years ago. I personally think California should open season on them or capture them and relocate them to the Sierras. Unfortunately, California won’t do that because of the cost and the fact that every other state around us offers season on them and they could travel over state lines.

I live just outside Paso Robles in Central CA. We have Cougars living in the hills around us as well as Bob Cats. I see the very large foot prints but never the Cougars themselves. I have seen a population spike in wild pigs and deer which makes me wonder if the lion population is declining. 2023

Message to the people that want to shoot all mountain lions: Do you have the same outrage over dogs? Fun fact: Dogs attack, injure and kill more people - mostly infants, children and others to weak to fight them off, than all other wild animals combined. More than 800,000 people are attacked, injured and killed by dogs each year in the US alone! So that makes your pet dog more dangerous than mountain lions, bears, bison, alligators, snakes, sharks and every other wild animal.
